Zemplén mountains

The Zemplén with its lesser-known, but excellent cycling routes has expanded its cycling transport options. One part of the Hernád-Zemplén InterCity train (Zemplén IC) which runs in every two hours from Budapest-Keleti via Miskolc to Szerencs, Sárospatak and Sátoraljaújhely offers 16 bicycle spaces. This will also make it possible to explore the cycle paths built in Tokaj-Hegyalja and Hegyköz - the latter following the route of the former Hegyköz railway. The other part of the train (Hernád IC) runs along the Hernád Valley, from where you can discover famous sights and villages on two wheels such as Boldogkő or Regéc castle, Vizsoly or Gönc. You can also explore the Hollóház porcelain factory and the castle of Füzér, or the Telki mine (famous for its medieval gold mines) and then reach Sátoraljaújhely. You can take your bicycle by train internationally to Košice (6 seats) from where you can explore the more remote parts of Slovakia.

Dunakanyar (Danube Bend) and Börzsöny

The Dunakanyar is conveniently accessible by Z70 trains (mostly operated by double-decker KISS motor trains) departing hourly from Nyugati station. These trains can carry 12 bicycles. From 15 March onwards additional fast trains will be added in the weekends.

Passenger trains to Vác will run every hour from Fót, Veresegyház and Őrbottyán and every two hours from Aszód - the latter service will also provide access from the east (Eger, Hatvan), where you can transfer to the Danube Bend.

From Vác it is easy to reach East-Börzsöny with excellent cycling routes to the mountains and around the Ipoly valley. From mid-March most of our S750 passenger trains to Diósjenő-Drégelypalánk will run with 16 bicycle coaches per weekend.

Cycling around Lake Balaton

The two-hourly trains from Budapest via Balatonfüred to Tapolca already run in spring with large capacity of bicycle transport carriagesBalaton- and Tópart IC trains to the southern shore of Lake Balaton can carry 8-8 bicycles until the start of the spring season.

From 15 March, a direct Lesence train will also run from Szombathely via Tapolca to Keszthely at weekends, carrying 16 bicycles.

Please note that on some trains you can travel only with a bicycle space reservation. This is particularly important in the Lake Balaton area, due to a high volume of cyclist traffic from spring to autumn. We recommend our passengers to buy their bicycle tickets and bicycle space reservations in advance.
